What will the massage feel like?

Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage your session may start with broad flowing strokes to help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As you relax more pressure will be applied to benefit specific areas and relieve tension in the muscles.

Different types of massage provide different pressures and techniques that are appropriate to the ailment/condition in question.

You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Your comfort is paramount so we can achieve the best result. We can discuss the types of treatment/methods to best suit you.

What should I do during the treatment?

Prior to treatment we will discuss your health, medication and any specific ailments/muscle groups that need attention. Please ask any questions you may have.

Once you are comfortably on the table the practitioner may gently move you or tell you what is needed through out the session (such as moving your arm to a different position).

Many people simply close their eyes and relax but you are welcome to talk should you prefer that.

Always communicate if/when pressure needs adjusting, more blankets or anything else relevant to the treatment.

How will I feel after the treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long term aches and pains developed from tension, repetitive work and postural deviation etc.

Following the initial relaxed state many feel increased energy, greater productivity, better quality sleep and heightened awareness.

Drinking plenty of water following your treatment is highly recommended to keep your muscles hydrated!

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?

They can help release chronic muscular tension, improve circulation, increase flexibility, reduce mental fatigue, reduce physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture and reduce blood pressure.

Massage and bodywork is known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of wellbeing.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?

YES!!! That is why it is imperative that before you begin your session, the practitioner takes a detailed medical history for your safety and the practitioner’s.

It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care it is strongly advised that you receive written recommendation for massage/bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
